Trade speculation involving Quinn Hughes may only grow leading up to the trade deadline
Ben Kuzma of The Province: The Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers, as well as the New Jersey Devils. have shown interest in Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes. It’s possible that Hughes is dealt before the trade deadline. The Canucks need to weigh their options if he won’t extend with them.
Talk of where Hughes could land and what potential trade packages could include, may only increase from now until the trade deadline.
Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff: (mailbag) Originally had thought that the Philadelphia Flyers wouldn’t trade for Quinn Hughes until the offseason when he’s eligible to sign a contract extension. After talking with some sources, it seems that they would consider trading for him without being able to sign him to an extension.
NHL Injuries: Bruins, Sabres, Avs, Stars, Penguins, Blues, Lightning, Leafs, Capitals, Jets and More
If they were able to acquire him this season and not able to get an extension done in the offseason, they could flip him to recover some assets. The asking price for Hughes, though, is not known, and it’s expected to be huge.
The Philadelphia Flyers needs, and other future roster moves
Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff: (mailbag) Ideally, the Philadelphia Flyers could use a No. 1 centerman, and a No. 1 defenseman. A No. 1 defenseman should be a need over a center.
They don’t have any centers that project as top-liners, but Jack Berglund, Jett Luchanko, and Jack Nesbitt project as top two, three centers. They have depth on the wing to balance out the lines.
Oliver Bonk is their only non-roster defenseman that projects as a top-four guy.
NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks Didn’t Want the Quinn Hughes Conversation Now
If Jett Luchanko, Porter Marone, and Alex Bump are ready to make the full-time jump to the NHL next season, Bobby Brink and Owen Tippett are two players whose roster spots could be in jeopardy. Tippet has six years left at $6.2 million and is still an attractive option according to one GM. His no-trade protection kicks in next summer. Pending UFA Christian Dvorak has look good with Trevor Zegras, but may not be back.
