On the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, Vegas Golden Knights and the Buffalo Sabres …
TSN Insider Trading: Bob McKenzie: Contract negotiations between the Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland and Darren Ferris, the agent for RFA Andreas Athanasiou, “have really intensified and picked up over the last couple days.” It may not mean a deal gets done this week, but there has been more talk. Something could break this week – returning to the NHL or remaining in Europe.
Pierre LeBrun: If the Los Angeles Kings determine at some point this season that they need to bring in more scoring, the could make either Jake Muzzin or Alec Martinez available.
“It’s not every day that a top-four defenseman in-season is made available, and one that is not a rental player. Both these guys have term past this year.
So yes, this is something I believe the Kings have discussed internally, the possibility of doing this. Again, later in the season.
And just to see all these defensemen craved teams what they’d be willing to offer for one or the other.”
Pierre LeBrun: Think the Washington Capitals were looking around for a defenseman even before the injury to Matt Niskanen. They are thin on the blue line and playing some kids who may be better suited for the AHL right now.
The Vegas Golden Knights have ten defensemen and need to move at least two guys or lose one on waivers in the next couple weeks to call up Shea Theodore.
Darren Dreger: The Buffalo Sabres aren’t interested in trading Evander Kane at the moment unless they are blown away by an offer. Kane has been providing the Sabres with a lot of offense so far this season. GM Jason Botterill is willing to listen to trade offers involving Kane, but it’s likely something that will continue until the trade deadline in February.
