Silence is golden for Robin Lehner and Islanders

Larry Brooks of the New York Post:  The good news for those concerned about Robin Lehner leaving the Islanders is that there should be no worry. Fortunately for Islanders fans, the lack of talk is a good sign that New York will re-sign the Vezina nominated goalie to a new deal.

There are few suitors and then Lehner would have to be paid. Lastly, that works in the Islanders’ favor.

What Vancouver would need to trade for Jack Hughes

Jason Botchford of The Athletic: The cost to trade up from tenth to second or first goes up by the day for the Vancouver Canucks. Then, fans got involved in the process that is when some of the proposals became a little tilted towards Vancouver.

Any package for the first or second pick involves at least several top draft picks, one or two NHL ready players that are top or middle-six minimum and a prospect. There would likely need to be some cap space eaten as well.

The going assumption states that New Jersey is expected to draft Jack Hughes. It could even take as much as a Lindros package. Neither the Devils or Rangers expect to trade the pick even no matter what they could acquire for their pick.

Unfortunately, Vancouver is fishing for a dream.

Welcome to the Steve Yzerman Era in Detroit

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: And, so it begins in Detroit. Steve Yzerman officially is the general manager for the Red Wings. The simple message is “I don’t want to fail”.

This is quite the rebuild. On the other hand, there are quite a few pieces to work with. Those include Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi, Andreas Athanasiou, Filip Hronek, and others. Add in several prospects and Filip Zadina as well and there is the making for a head start in rebuilding. There is a nice bevy of draft picks as well.

The press conference here was telling. Yzerman dictated what he wants as an outline err agenda for the organization. There is a plan and the new general manager will execute it to a tee. Just be patient fans of the Detroit Red Wings.
