On the Buffalo Sabres …
Pierre LeBrun: Heard that the Sabres have interviewed Bill Guerin for their vacant GM position. There have been several others who have interviewed or will be interviewed.
On the Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Arizona Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning …
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving is expected to meet with ownership this week. It may come down to the Flames offer if he’s back or not. If he isn’t, have to think the Flames will take a look at Craig Conroy.
ESPN’s Craig Custance reported that the Sabres may have some interest in Coyotes GM John Chayka.
Other options for Sabres could be Dean Lombardi, Jason Betterill, Bill Guerin, Tom Fitzgerald, Mike Futa, Kyle Dubas, Mike Gillis, Julien BriseBois, Chris Drury, Mike Hunter, Rick Dudley, Scott Luce.
Hunter might be in line to take over for Lou Lamoriello in Toronto when he retires, so Hunter may not want to leave.
The Sabres and Florida Panthers might be interested in Boston University coach David Quinn.
Word is that Ilya Kovalchuk’s camp has informed the New Jersey Devils that he’d like to return to the NHL next year.
The Kings contacted Jim Montgomery about an assistant coaching position but it’s likely not going happen. Montgomery could be meeting with the Panthers this week.
Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said they want “more offence from the blue line, but there’s no guarantee we can do that.” When asked if he prefers a defenseman that is right or left handed he said it “doesn’t matter.”
Yzerman on if he has an idea what it’s going to cost to re-sign RFAs Jonathan Drouin, Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat.
“I can’t speculate, because the term could make the number dramatically different (especially in Drouin’s case). We have an idea, but I’m not going to share. We have had those discussions though.”
Craig Morgan: Coyotes GM Chayka is under contract with the Coyotes for another four years. Source saying the Coyotes wouldn’t give the Sabres permission to speak with him.
