On the San Jose Sharks …

Kevin Kurz of The Athletic: Interview with Sharks GM Doug Wilson.

When asked if they can spend to the cap ceiling – they have $6 million in cap space – and how could they benefit from the cap space.

“Historically, when you have a lot of assets and young players and you have cap space, that leads you to opportunities. That’s how we’ve acquired players in the past. So, we’re in a position to allow people to compete and take jobs and get back on top of their game, but also to add if needed when the right opportunity comes. Other teams in the league know who the teams are who have cap space and pieces they may want. That leads to conversations.”

On the Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators  …

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Pierre McGuire was on 1200 and noted that the Colorado Avalanche had received a “substantial” offer for Matt Duchene.

“What’s interesting is I spoke to a management team three days ago, and they definitely want to be a player. I know they’ve already made an offer on Duchene. I just don’t know what the offer is, but they said it was substantial so I believe them. But they’re trying to figure it out because it looks like it would have to involve another team.

“I think there are a lot of moving parts on the Matt Duchene front, but I also think you’re also going to see at some point he will be moved.”

McGuire when asked if Kyle Turris could be fallback plan for the Nashville Predators.

“They’re definitely prioritizing getting another center to play right behind Ryan Johansen because of the retirement of Mike Fisher,” said McGuire of the Predators. “So the answer is yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised. Now again, I’m not going to put names out there because I just don’t know. And I haven’t heard Kyle’s name about that, so potentially you’re reading that in a place where I haven’t seen it. But I would just tell you that they definitely are looking for a center ice player just because of the retirement of Mike Fisher. So again, that’ll be an interesting place to watch.”

continue that the management team he spoke with are really serious about Duchene, and they think he’d make them an “instantaneous contender.”
