On the San Jose Sharks …
Kevin Kurz: After getting defenseman Dylan DeMelo re-signed, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they considered trading defenseman Tim Heed. Heed will be a UFA after next season and may welcome a move to get a bit more playing time and not a seventh defenseman.
On the Pittsburgh Penguins …
Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Multiple sources are saying that the Penguins are not having serious trade talks with the Montreal Canadiens about winger Max Pacioretty.
Sources did say that the teams have talked about Pacioretty, but the asking price is too much of GM Jim Rutherford. Trade talks didn’t really get past the preliminary stages, the things can obviously change.
The Penguins were one of the teams that were interested in Anthony Duclair before he signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Penguins have spoken with the Carolina Hurricanes about Jeff Skinner.
Jamie Oleksiak will be scheduled to have an arbitration hearing unless they get deal done beforehand. They have about $2.8 million in salary cap space, and are not aggressively shopping for anyone on the free agent market.
On the Edmonton Oilers …
David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Frank Seravalli was on TSN 1260 radio and was talking about the Edmonton Oilers and Milan Lucic.
“I’m concerned about the Milan Lucic situation. I mean, you talk about Erik Karlsson and what a mess that has been in Ottawa, and you talk about Jeff Skinner and the fact that he hasn’t been traded from Carolina, and Justin Faulk and some other guys where you feel like the can has been kicked so far down the road. I don’t think Milan Lucic is in all that different of a category when you consider what he’s gone through — and really the position the Oilers are in, it’s almost untenable.”
