NHL Rumors: San Jose Sharks, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Edmonton Oilers

DeBoer to get an extension from the Sharks

Mike Johnston of Sportsnet: Nick Kypreos said that the San Jose Sharks are expected to sign head coach Pete DeBoer to a multi-year deal. He’s in the last year of his deal.

Lightning not rushing Yzerman

Joe Smith of The Athletic: The Tampa Bay Lightning are not rushing Steve Yzerman into any decision.

“He has the luxury of being able to wait a little later,” BriseBois said. “But we’ve discussed it. I think he’s happy right now. He’s found some balance that he’s happy with. But I can’t speak for him. I know I’ve enjoyed working with him. I’m trying to make it so it’s a good experience for him. But that’s all I can say right now.”

Yzerman has created a “team-first mentality” and players have bought into it, and have made sacrifices with regards to money, term, ice time or role.

If Yzerman is looking to be a GM again you have to think it’s in Detroit. The Edmonton Oilers and Seattle would be interested.

Don’t expect McDavid to want to leave Edmonton

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 690 was asked about the if there would come a time when Connor McDavid would want to get out of Edmonton. McKenzie said it would take years and McDavid hasn’t suggested anything about wanting to leave Edmonton.

It’s going to take at least a year for their next GM to get his plan going and it’s going to be an important hire for them.

“But even if the Oilers aren’t a playoff team a year from now, as long as they’re pointed in the right direction there would be no reason for a guy like Connor McDavid to push any panic buttons. But, I mean, if you’re two years from now – at the end of two more seasons – if you’re three years into an eight-year contract and you’ve been six years in the league and you’ve only made the playoffs once, then that would be the time, I would think, the so-called best player in the game would say, ‘What the hell is going on here. This isn’t working out.’
