Scouting the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings

Dennis Bernstein: Scouts listed to attend last night’s Ducks-Kings game included the Minnesota Wild (2), New York Rangers (2), Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, and Edmonton Oilers.

Dubas on the Maple Leafs back-up goalie situation

Kristen Shilton: Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas on possibility of them being in the market for a new back-up goalie.

“What I would really like more than anything is for us to put together a good game in front of Michael here in the coming stretch. We need to give him an opportunity as well.”

An option for the Devils

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: On what the New Jersey Devils could do with Taylor Hall and coach John Hynes: “But Shero could wait to pull the trigger on getting a haul back for Hall and dismiss the coach instead, perhaps providing No. 9 with a reason to stay and sign an extension if the new man behind the bench could ignite the team.”

How can Julien survive?

Jack Todd: Could be wrong but don’t see how Montreal Canadiens head coach Claude Julien survives this. “He surely knows. And if you know him, you know he has done everything in his power to turn it around”

Canadiens haven’t spoken with Hartley

Igor Eronko: Avangard’s (KHL) head coach Bob Hartley said that their team president misunderstood his comments: “I’m getting a million of phone calls from Montreal. It’s very sad because they have a coach. No one from the Montreal Canadiens have called me. And I’m happy with Avangard.”

  • Aivis Kalnins: It is surprising that more clarification that the sides haven’t spoken: “Bob is under contract with Avangard and he is also committed to coaching Latvian national team at least until after the Winter Olympics”

Igor Eronko: Maxim Sushinsky, Avangard’s president, has said to TASS that Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin never met up with Bob Hartley in Russia but that they did speak on the phone.
