Emily Sadler: Stars forward Jason Spezza just scored his first goal of the season. Elliotte Friedman had heard his name come up in the rumor mill as a potential trade chip for the Stars.
“Now, one thing we should realize is he has full control over his situation—no-move clause during the season. No. 2, he’s got one more year at $7.5 million dollars,” Friedman said. “Just also in researching it, I think Dallas realizes you need offence to win in this league and Jason Spezza can still provide offence.”
Friedman thinks that the Stars will wait to see if he can get things going before they decide if they need to make a move.
On the Colorado Avalanche …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1200 talking about the Colorado Avalanche, and that they may not be done looking to make moves.
“I think they’re still somewhat open for business,” considered McKenzie. “But they’re a more competitive team this year. The house is not on fire right now like it was last year.”
Gabriel Landeskog has never wanted out of Colorado, and McKenzie doesn’t get the sense that the Avs are looking for a complete shakeup.
“But in any case, Landeskog is a guy that’s never wanted out, but they felt like when things were going down the drain last year that those were two players that would have currency and would get them back some of the many things that they needed to make this team better. Now that they’re a more competitive team, I don’t know that they’d be as quick to move Landeskog. I think they’d listen on just about anybody. But I don’t think they have as burning a desire to shake things up as much as they did last year.”
