Scouting the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning …
James Mirtle: Was told that despite being listed to attend last night’s Maple Leafs-Lightning game, Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli didn’t attend.
20 teams were listed to attended last night’s Maple Leafs-Lightning game
Joe Smith: Columbus Blue Jackets director of hockey admin Josh Flynn was listed to be at last night’s Maple Leafs-Lightning game. has seen Flynn at several Lightning’s games this season. Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson could be available, and the Lightning could use a defenseman.
On the Pittsburgh Penguins …
Jimmy Murphy: Have been hearing that Penguins have more than a passing interested in Senators center Derick Brassard.
On the Ottawa Senators …
Pierre LeBrun: The Senators have spoken to teams about Derick Brassard. The asking price for Brassard is believed to be a 1st round draft pick, a top prospect, plus another piece. Brassard has another year left on his contract at a $5 million cap hit, with a $3.5 million salary.
On the Winnipeg Jets …
Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: The Jets were second in the Central division heading into last night’s action. They stand to be in a position to be looking to move draft picks and prospects.
Their interest in a top-six forward makes a lot of sense. The Jets don’t have a lot of players with playoff experience.
Rangers Mats Zuccarello and Michael Grabner are two wingers they could be looking at. Zuccarello has another year left at $4.5 million. Grabner is a pending free agent.
The Jets could also look for some added depth on the blue line on the left side.
wonders about Rangers defenseman Nick Holden.
With injury concerns with Steve Mason and Michael Hutchinson, both out with concussions could mean they take a look at the goalie market as well.
Potential trade targets:
Mats Zuccarello – Rangers
Michael Grabner – Rangers
Derick Brassard – Senators
Max Domi – Coyotes
Nick Holden – Rangers
Nathan Beaulieu – Sabres
Jordie Benn – Canadiens
Calvin Pickard – Maple Leafs
Chad Johnson – Sabres
