Scouting the Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils
Michael Augello: Carolina Hurricanes assistant GM Rick Dudley was listed to attend the Maple Leafs and Devils game last night. The Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning also had scouts listed to attend.
Five teams that could be interested in Nylander
Rory Boylen of Sportsnet: The Toronto Maple Leafs and William Nylander are still at standstill and time is closing in on the December 1st deadline.
If the Maple Leafs look to move the restricted free agent forward, here are five teams that could consider trading for him.
Carolina Hurricanes – Elliotte Friedman said over the weekend that the Hurricanes will be all in on Nylander. The Hurricanes need scoring and the Maple Leafs need defense and could use a right-handed defenseman or two.
The Maple Leafs could target Brett Pesce, Justin Faulk, and Valentin Zykov.
Los Angeles Kings – The Kings are last in scoring averaging 2.15 goals per game. If they were going to trade for Nylander, they could eventually move him to center and move Jeff Carter back to the wing. One issue for the Kings is that they have $76.954 committed to 16 players.
The Maple Leafs could target Jake Muzzin, Tanner Pearson, Kale Clague, and Rasmus Kupari.
Philadelphia Flyers – Friedman noted last week that the Flyers could be a stealth team on Nylander.
The Maple Leafs could target Shayne Gostisbehere, Travis Sanheim, Philippe Myers, and Robert Hagg.
Minnesota Wild – A strong start to the season could lessen the odds of a big trade like for Nylander. On the other side, the Wild are one of the oldest teams and adding an offensive 22-year old could be enticing.
The Maple Leafs could target Jonas Brodin, Jared Spurgeon, and Matt Dumba.
Anaheim Ducks – The Ducks are struggling to start the season and battling injuries. GM Bob Murray said they need to get faster.
The Maple Leafs could target Brandon Montour, Josh Manson, Josh Mahura, Troy Terry, and Max Jones.
