On the Ottawa Senators and the No. 4 pick …
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on the 31 Thoughts Podcast suggests the Senators should give up their No. 4 pick this year to the Colorado Avalanche instead of giving them their 2019 first-round pick in case it’s even higher. Cosentino disagreed with Friedman.
On the Ottawa Senators and Erik Karlsson, Vegas Golden Knights and a little Edmonton Oilers …
Chris Nichols of FRS Hockey: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1290 talking about Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson. McKenzie adds that they are trying to trade winger Mike Hoffman, and he believes they probably will. They also have to figure out what they are going to do with Karlson.
“And I suspect they’re going to want to try to tamp down any trade talk this week leading into the draft, but I will tell you this: I do believe there will be multiple teams that will call the Ottawa Senators, if they haven’t already, and start to make pitches on Karlsson. So they may get to listen again, that’ll be up to them to decide how they want to handle that.”
McKenzie believes the Vegas Golden Knights will make another run at trading for Karlsson. The Golden Knights were willing to take on Bobby Ryan‘s contract at the deadline, but has that changed now?
McKenzie continues that the Senators need to decide if they will listen to trade offers this week or will they tell teams they are going to make Karlsson an offer on July 1st.
Also on Monday morning, McKenzie was on a TSN 690 talking about the Senators and Karlsson. If it hasn’t started happening already, McKenzie says teams will be calling that Sens to see what they are doing with Karlsson.
“I do believe that there will be teams out there, specifically Vegas amongst them, that will push the Senators this week to see and test their desire to keep or trade Karlsson.”
McKenize was also on TSN 1260 yesterday talking about Karlsson. McKenzie was asked about the Oilers, as well as what the general price for Karlsson could be. Towards the end of McKenzie response:
“I also still believe that IF they decide they’re going to trade Erik Karlsson – and I say that because maybe they are going to tell teams, ‘We’ll revisit this in July.’ But if they trade Erik Karlsson I would think if they can get rid of the Bobby Ryan contract in the deal then so much the better. That might impact their return a little bit, but they’re going to get a good return no matter what.
“And I think a team like the Vegas Golden Knights much more so obviously than the Edmonton Oilers – the Edmonton Oilers are not taking Bobby Ryan’s contract. The Vegas Golden Knights could take Bobby Ryan’s contract, and I think would be happy to take Bobby Ryan’s contract, if it gives them a shot at getting Erik Karlsson.”
