On the Ottawa Senators …

Bruce Garrioch: The Senators signed prospect Colin White to an amateur tryout.

Dean Brown: If the Senators sign White to an entry-level contract, he would be eligible to play in the playoffs.

Bruce Garrioch: Thinking that an entry-level contract for Colin White may be more likely once a playoff spot is clinched.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: Shane Doan has missed the past five games with injury, and there are only seven games left in their season and possibly his career. He’s going ‘year-to-year’ and will decide “well after the season” if he’ll come back for his 22nd NHL season.

“But as a player you’re always aware of the future and thinking about it,” he said. “So it’s one of those things that when you’re not playing you definitely are thinking, ‘I want to play.’ So probably makes it even more of a thought.”

On the Philadelphia Flyers …

Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Daily News: College free agent Mike Vecchione said yesterday that he’s close to signing a contract with a NHL team.

The Flyers are strong contenders to sign him. Flyers GM Ron Hextall and director of player personnel Chris Pryor watched Union’s final game of the season on Saturday. They didn’t speak with Vecchione.

Vecchione was at the Flyers development camp last year, but he decided to return to college for another season. Flyers Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere was a teammate of Vecchione at Union and he’s been trying to convince him to sign with the Flyers.

“We’re very close and I would love to play with Shayne again,” said Vecchione who recently graduated with a 3.4 grade point average and a history degree. “But like he said, I’m going to make the decision that’s best for me. If I have an opportunity to play there, I’m definitely going to consider it. It’s just a matter of finding the best fit for me and when I’ll be able to play and what teams need a center.”

Vecchione has attended four development camps – the Flyers and the Boston Bruins. He is from Massachusetts.
