Senators, Duchene, and their coaching staff
TSN: Bob McKenzie on Insider Trading was talking about the video involving the Ottawa Senators. The team and players knew about it before it went viral, and thought they had put it behind them. Matt Duchene was one of the players involved, and his camp and the Senators have been involved in contract extension talks.
“And right now, it’s currently a situation where his agent Pat Brisson and general manager Pierre Dorion of the Senators are actually engaged in substantive contract talks for an extension.
Now I can’t sit here and tell you that Duchene’s going to re-sign in Ottawa, but I can tell you there appears to be good faith bargaining going on on both sides. The Senators want him back and he has interest in staying if it’s the right deal. We’ll see how it goes from here.”
Pierre LeBrun: The Ottawa Senators coaching staff of Guy Boucher, Marc Crawford and Marty Raymond are all in the final year of their contracts, so they were already on a short leash. GM Pierre Dorion obviously believes they are the right coaches for now, but that is something to watch.
What’s next for recently fired Quenneville and GM Bowman may be next on the hot seat
Pierre LeBrun: Recently fired Joel Quenneville will be owed his $6 million for the remainder of this season and next. Where he coaches next will obviously have to be the right situation, but it will also have to be a team that can afford a big salary that he’ll command.
Bob McKenzie: Quenneville will get coaching offers during the season – and he may get antsy – but he could wait until the offseason to see what else opens up.
“It’s not related to Quenneville, but keep an eye on St. Louis. They’re not happy at all with the way their season has gone. Mike Yeo himself said he’s under the gun and that whole organization is under the gun to play a lot better than they have been.”
Darren Dreger: Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman has now fired his head coach, traded quality players in Artemi Panarin and Niklas Hjalmarsson, so it may be his turn for the hot seat.
“so if it doesn’t work out, then the general manager will likely be next.”
