On the Ottawa Senators …
Jim Cerny of the SportingNews: Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson answered questions from the media yesterday morning about the Senators and but wouldn’t go much into his future.
He admits that the Senators need to make some changes, but now isn’t the time to discuss his future.
“Right now, I don’t think I or the organization is worried about the future involving me,” Karlsson said. “I think right now we’re trying to take care of the immediate problem and get us out of the slump we are in and try and build toward the future.”
On the Vancouver Canucks …
Sportsnet: No real progress has been made with regards to the Daniel and Henrik Sedin and their future with the Canucks beyond this season. Canucks GM Jim Benning said that the team has reached out to the Sedin’s camp, but hasn’t heard back yet.
“We contacted their agents last week just to kind of get a feel for where they’re at and what they’re thinking going into the trade deadline so we kind of know at the end of the year what their plan is for next year,” said Benning. “I haven’t heard back yet from J.P. Barry, but when he gets back to me, we’ll have a better understanding as to what the plan is going forward.”
Benning hopes to hear from Barry soon so that they can better plan for the deadline and offseason.
Benning’s contract is also up after the season and he confirmed that he’s spoken with president Trevor Linden and team owner Francesco Aquilini.
JD Burke of The Athletic: Trading Daniel and Henrik Sedin ahead of the deadline seems unfeasible.
If the Sedin’s return for another season in Vancouver would figure their salary would be around $10 million for both.
The Canucks could choose to keep Tomas Vanek and try to extend him.
The Canucks may be looking for an NHL ready player in his early 20’s for defenseman Erik Gudbranson.
