The Senators should look at Nikita Gusev. Sens will talk to Chabot about an extension

Shawn Simpson: The Vegas Golden Knights need to make some more moves. If the Ottawa Senators are able to get Nikita Gusev to the sign the ‘right’ contract, trading for the RFA would be a good move. He had 82 points in the KHL last season in 62 games.

Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion still has some work to do as he needs to get defenseman Thomas Chabot signed to a long-term extension.

They could look at a bridge deal but having been down that road before, it may not work out well for them in the long run. It’s a route that could also lead to a potential offer sheet.

Dorion needs to take care of his current RFAs in Colin White and Christian Wolanin first but said he’ll continue to talk with Chabot’s camp about an extension.

Chabot could make it difficult for the Senators if he plays out the final year of his ELC and uses the offer sheet threat as leverage.

The Devils plan to continue to explore options to add to their roster

Mike Morreale of NHL.com: The New Jersey Devils have already added Jack Hughes, P.K. Subban and Wayne Simmonds this offseason and they’ll continue to look at other options.

“I’ve made some calls and I’ll be doing the same thing this week,” Devils general manager Ray Shero said Tuesday. “We certainly would want to see what’s out there. As the dust settles on the first day of free agency, everyone has their winners and losers, but winning on July 1 is never the goal.

“If you have a chance to improve your team you will. We’re still in good shape, wise, and we’ve utilized that space well. Our managing partners (Josh Harris and David Blitzer) have been very supportive, and we’ve kind of laid out that when the time is right, we’ll take advantage of a couple opportunities and will continue to do so, if it’s available.”
