On the San Jose Sharks …
Kevin Kurz: Sharks GM Doug Wilson said that he doesn’t consider free agent Jaromir Jagr a good fit in San Jose.
On the New York Rangers …
Brett Cyrgalis: Rangers GM Jeff Gorton said that he’s still open to the idea of trading for a center, but adds that it’s not easy to trade for one. He is hoping that Kevin Hayes and Mika Zibanejad are able to step it up.
Dan Rosen: Gorton said that he’s in the market for a center, but added that “we’re not the only team.” Gorton added that he’s comfortable with J.T. Miller at center.
On the Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers, and New York Rangers …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 and was talking about some players who are on the last year of their contracts.
“I think in Toronto we’re sitting there and there’s van Riemsdyk and Bozak are a year away,” noted Friedman. “Both of those guys have made it clear they want to stay. I wouldn’t be surprised, in van Riemsdyk’s case especially, if they maybe try and talk to him and say, ‘Okay, if you want to stay what are we doing here. How can we make this work.’ We saw a situation where T.J. Oshie took more term and less money to make it work for Washington. So I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s something people look at.
“There’s Evander Kane in Buffalo. There’s a guy who is a year away from unrestricted free agency. I’m curious to see what his future is going to be.”
Friedman says that GM Peter Chiarelli would like to keep Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but adds that after this season they may see how the pieces fall.
Friedman also wonders about New York Rangers forward Rick Nash. The Rangers did look two years ago about a potential move, but he’s been a good fit for them.
