On the San Jose Sharks …
Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: Sharks GM Doug Armstrong is hoping to get goaltender Martin Jones signed to a contract extension this offseason. The 27-year old is entering the final year of his three-year, $9 million deal.
Based on recent deals signed by Ben Bishop (six years, $29.5 million) and Scott Darling (four years, $16.6 million), Jones could be looking at a mult-year deal in the $5.5 to $6 million per year range.
They are allowed to sign an extension after July 1st.
On the Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, Pittsburgh Penguins and Calgary Flames …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 960 yesterday talking about the goalie market.
Friedman thinks that the Dallas Stars will buy out Antti Niemi if they can’t trade him or if they can’t convince the Vegas Golden Knights to draft him.
Nick Kypreos has been saying for awhile that he’s been hearing that there is something going on between the Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins regarding Marc-Andre Fleury.
Friedman on the Calgary Flames goaltending option.
“With you guys, I don’t know. I’m curious to see. I wonder – does Brad Treliving have any tremendous feelings one way or the other on Mike Condon. Maybe what he does is he goes back to Johnson and Elliott for one more year. You’ve got a lot of goalies there who are prospects who are maybe a year or two away. Maybe that’s the decision that you guys end up making.”
There may be no reason for the Nashville Predators would trade Juuse Saros. Antti Raanta is another name.
Fleury would likely be at the top of the Flames list of goaltenders.
“Fleury obviously is the guy at the top of the list, no question,” the Insider said. “And to be honest, if it was Calgary and that was the best option, it wouldn’t surprise me if Marc-Andre Fleury said, ‘Fine.’
“But I think you have to look at Vegas – that’s probably the team I would look at right now and say, ‘Yeah, you know what? They’re probably the team unless proven otherwise.’ “
