TSN: The future of New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald and head coach Sheldon Keefe have come into question. Fitzgerald talks to ownership weekly, and they know the path he wants to take, according to Darren Dreger, but something needs to change if they don’t turn things around quickly.
“And he is trying to shake things up, and shake things up in a significant way. He’s looking to add a forward. A top-six piece that can help them in the goal scoring department. The problem is as we all know that the market from a trade perspective is a little thin and quiet right now. But Fitzgerald is wanting to be aggressive.”
Daily Faceoff: Steve Peters on the Daily Faceoff Live on the New Jersey Devils and their need for change to turn their season around.
“When you can’t move a player to shake things up in the room, the only thing you can do is start firing people. And I know that sounds that, that sounds cruel.

But you look at what Keefe’s comments were a week ago, calling out his entire team for their effort. Leaving his goaltender and like this, there’s a riff in that room. Telling you there is. It’s a difficult thing, and once you get that separation between coach and players, it’s hard to come back from.
Now, is it part of what Tom Fitzgerald has created in this roster? Yeah, I think it is. I don’t think they’re strong enough in the top six. I think there’s a hole there. And I clearly their bottom six is not providing the secondary scoring that they need.
This team needs a major change. If they think this is the playoff team. If they think that they can compete and try to get back into this race, they’re only points out.
If they can find a way to get back in, yeah, I do think they’re going to need to make a change. And I do think it’s going to be a major one, and it probably is going to happen soon.”
