On Spencer Foo ..
Bob Stauffer: College free agent Spencer Foo said that he’s narrowed it down to five teams and that the Edmonton Oilers are one of them.
On the Chicago Blackhawks …
Mark Lazerus: There is lots of speculation surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks. They need to move more salary than just Marcus Kruger … Neither Artem Anisimov or Brent Seabrook have been asked by the Blackhawks as of now to waive their no-movement clauses.
Mark Lazerus: Niklas Hjalmarsson‘s and Marian Hossa‘s name have come up a few times when talking to people … Hjalmarsson seems like a logical choice as he is the only player in their “core” that has a partial NMC … Nothing is concrete, just some speculation as something has to give with regards to the Blackhawks.
Chris Hine: Lots of Blackhawks rumors, but Patrick Kane‘s name has not come up.
Scott Powers: Haven’t heard anything specific with regards to Blackhawks rumors, but have told that Anisimov and Seabrook haven’t been asked to waive their NMCs.
On the Washington Capitals and Justin Williams …
J.J. Regan of CSN Mid Atlantic: Capitals unrestricted free agent winger Justin Williams said yesterday that he’s spoken with GM Brian MacLellan and they’ll have another meeting later this week.
“We had a sit down at the end of the year and we also, we have another meeting scheduled this week,” Williams said. “We’ll see what’s going on. I know he enjoyed having me and I enjoyed having my time here. I think there’s just a lot of things that are going to happen in the next month that no one really knows so it’s kind of a wait and see for a lot of people including me.”
The Capitals don’t have a lot of cap room, so a Williams return may depend on how the expansion draft players out, what it takes to re-sign their RFAs and if salary escalator is used.
“I have no inkling right now whether or not I’ll be back,” Williams said. “ both expressed our desire to perhaps get something done. There’s just a lot of intangibles, a lot of things that could happen in the next month that could change that.”
