Berube likely to lose the ‘interim’ tag
Sportsnet: The St. Louis Blues and interim head coach Craig Berube will wait until the season is over before they talk about anything according to Nick Kypreos.
“They met earlier and decided they will not talk contract at all until the end of the season. They don’t think it’s a distraction at all.
“Basically, it’s Berube’s job if he wants it. The only thing is, if he keeps winning, maybe the price of poker goes up.”
Vigneault may enter coaching speculation
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman believes that Alain Vigneault‘s name is going to start coming up in head coaching speculation.
“For example, I think if Florida makes a change he could be a guy who’s in the mix there.”
Blashill will get a contract extension, but other front office questions remain
Blashill to get a contract extension soon, but other front office questions remain
Ansar Khan of MLive: The Detroit Red Wings will sign head coach Jeff Blashill to a contract extension real soon according to a source.
It was believed that the Red Wings were originally going to wait until after the season but may now make the announcement soon as they are playing really well of late.
GM Ken Holland has one year left on his contract, and it appears that he’ll be returning as well. Ownership likely wouldn’t have given Holland the green light to bring Blashill back if they were thinking of a GM change.
There has been lots of speculation about Steve Yzerman returning to the Red Wings and being their GM and/or president.
Sportsnet: Chris Johnston says that Blashill will be back but there are still some front office questions.
“Though you have that continuity behind the bench, as we move towards the off-season I still think there’s some questions about what will happen in the front office,” Johnston continued. “Ken Holland, the long-time general manager, does have a year beyond this one but there’s been speculation there could be a change there. So we’ll have to see where that goes, but Jeff Blashill will be back for the foreseeable future.”
