Steve Yzerman interested in Rangers’ top job
Larry Brooks of the New York Post: Yzerman is definitely interested in the New York job but there are some hurdles to clear before that happens. At least, he is intrigued. There are no concrete sources linking him to the job imminently. Steve Yzerman and John Davidson were both at the Rangers game on Friday night fueling further speculation.
Expect a few more candidates to come out over the next few weeks but it appears the top two candidates will get serious consideration over anyone else initially.
Connor McDavid wanting to leave? Not so fast!
David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Bob Stauffer fired back after Justin Bourne’s comments earlier in the week about Connor McDavid.
On Friday, Stauffer repeated and added to his critique of Bourne: “Then there’s the guys that troll markets and belittle markets. And when you’re working in sports or sports media in general and your whole shtick is slagging other markets, you are akin to a comedian who has to rely on fart jokes and it’s because you have no juice.”
Again, he was not the only one as the Edmonton Oilers closed their circles tightly after the McDavid interview that started all of this mess. The player simply is ticked his team is not in the playoffs this year. That is it. Bourne’s intention was to make a comment and not troll Edmonton. However, it was how the comment was perceived that received all the attention. Toronto radio is Toronto radio as they say and Connor McDavid is not going to run off from Edmonton. He would have already if the forward was that fickle.
Carolina not done with Adam Fox just yet?
Tsn.ca Staff: After publicly saying the Carolina Hurricanes would trade Adam Fox, management is saying not yet. Don Waddell mentioned casually that they still own Fox’s rights and would try to sign the defenseman. This contradicts Tom Dundon’s comments earlier in the week at least a little. However, there is no end date and general managers talk to other general managers all the time. For now, Carolina seems to want a low first-round pick for Fox and not a second-round selection.
