On the Tampa Bay Lightning …
David Pagnotta: The Lightning have been trying to trade defenseman Jason Garrison.
Bob McKenzie: Trading Tyler Johnson wouldn’t have got the Lightning Mikhail Sergachev, had to be Jonathan Drouin.
Joe Smith: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said the acquisition of Sergachev doesn’t mean he’ll stop looking to add another defenseman.
Pierre LeBrun: Yzerman still has trade chips and may look to add a more veteran defenseman that can help right away.
Joe Smith: Yzerman: “If there’s a defenseman out there + a fit that makes us better we’d look at it for sure”
Joe Smith: Yzerman wouldn’t say if they asked Ryan Callahan if he’d waive his no-movement clause for the expansion draft. He would have until 5 PM ET today to waive his NMC.
On the Anaheim Ducks and the Tampa Bay Lightning …
David Pagnotta: Have been told that trade talks between Ducks and Lightning involving Jonathan Drouin didn’t amount to much. Have been told that it’s “not likely” that Sami Vatanen will be with the Ducks come July.
Anaheim Ducks …
Darren Dreger: Fowler extension talks are progressing well.
David Pagnotta: Have been told that contract talks between the Ducks and RFA Cam Fowler are “progressing.” He’s not officially allowed to sign a new contract until July 1st.
Elliotte Friedman: The Ducks have put defenseman Simon Despres on waivers for the purpose of being bought out.
Pierre LeBrun: Despres had four years left on his contract at a $3.7 million cap hit. Buyout opens up more room for a Fowler’s contract extension.
Mike Halford: Despres has missed 131 of the past 164 games with a concussion. His only game of last season came on October 13.
