Kiefer Sherwood is generating the most interest out of the Canucks pending UFAs
TSN: Pierre LeBrun said that the Vancouver Canucks have let teams know that their pending UFAs are available, and that forward Kiefer Sherwood is generated the most interest. He carries a $1.5 million cap hit, plays physical, and he’s been scoring.
“Among the teams that I believe have inquired, one is the Minnesota Wild. That makes sense; they’ve been out there looking at top-six options. I think the Montreal Canadiens have at the very least picked up the phone to see what was going on there. But there are several other teams, given again, all the appealing aspects of Kiefer Sherwood.”
Believe they’d like to get a young player back in return for Sherwood over futures.
NHL Rumors: The Quinn Hughes Situation Could get Interesting Around the Olympics
TSN: Pierre LeBrun also adds the Dallas Stars as one of the long list of teams that have kicked tires on Kiefer Sherwood.
“I’m told Montreal and Dallas are also among a long list of teams that at the very least have kicked tires. But again, that’s a long list of teams. Now, Vancouver is not rushing into this, I’m told. They want to get a full picture of what the market looks like. But what will be interesting to me is, are some of these teams who go more serious in these talks willing to sign Sherwood as part of this to make the value greater for Vancouver? We’ll see if that happens or not.”
The Ottawa Senators may not be looking to hit a home run, but they’d like to make a move
TSN: The Ottawa Senators have talked to all the teams that have said they are listening to calls on their players, according to Pierre LeBrun, who adds that we may need to downplay the speculation of them taking a “big swing.” They’d like to add someone to their top-six or top-nine, and maybe more of a single as opposed to a home run.
NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers Won’t Rush a Trevor Zegras Extension
“You look at a lot of the clever moves that Steve Staios has made over the last year, and a lot of them are singles that have really helped the team. That’s not to say you wouldn’t be interested in something bigger. But I just think if you’re going to play the odds here, I’d say it’s more, ‘Hey, is there something that could help that’s not a blockbuster, but that could still help our top six.’ I think that’s more what they’re looking at between now and March 6.”
