Will the Jets explore blue line options?
Pierre LeBrun: Depending on how the Dustin Byfuglien situation plays out, wonders if the Jets will inquire about Carolina Hurricanes Justin Faulk and Buffalo Sabres Rasmus Ristolainen.
Both are available and are top-four defensemen.
The Jets may be on Faulk’s approved trade list.
Shawn Simpson: The Jets blue line have already lost Tyler Myers and Ben Chiarot to free agency, and they traded Jacob Trouba. If they lose Byfuglien as well, it becomes a really thin blue line.
Would the Jets start considering trading RFA Patrik Laine for a top defenseman?
The Wild may have been interested in trading for Marner
James (@Account4hockey): Elliotte Friedman said on Sportsnet 960 that before the Minnesota Wild had fired GM Paul Fenton, they had been interested in Toronto Maple Leafs then RFA Mitch Marner.
They weren’t interested in offer sheeting Marner, but trading for him.
The Columbus Blue Jackets were interested in a long-term offer sheet for Mitch Marner, but he was wanting three or four years.
Shero and Hall’s camp to continue talks
Mike Morreale of NHL.com: New Jersey Devils GM Ray Shero said last week that they will continue their contract negotiations with Taylor Hall‘s camp later in training camp.
“Sometime later in training camp we’ll sit down,” Shero said. “From Taylor’s standpoint, I think he’s dialed in on himself right now in terms of his game and getting back on the ice after only playing 33 games last year. I look forward to seeing him at training camp. Nothing has really changed since the end of the season in terms of how this is playing out.”
The 27-year old Hall is entering the final year of his seven-year, $42 million deal.
“There are different stages of negotiation and at some point, going to play for us and then we’ll sort it out,” Shero said. “Whether he’s signed, we’ll see. I look forward to sitting down with him and seeing him back on the ice with us, which will be great. I know he’s looking forward to that, too. Ideally, we wanted to give him space this summer anyway, training wise. We’ve made some additions to try and improve our hockey team and hopefully Taylor will be a big part of this in the future.”
