Lightning and Point not making progress

Pierre LeBrun: There has been very little progress made between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Brayden Point.

Get the sense that this may be stalled more than people think. It will get done, but from as far as can tell, they are not remotely close on a deal.

The Maple Leafs and Marner’s camp are talking and might be making some progress

Updated 6:38 PM Darren Dreger: “Now getting the sense the Leafs are closing in on a Marner extension.”

  • Darren Dreger: (6:39 pm)”Sounding like a 6 year term. Not official.”
  • Darren Dreger: (6:46 pm) “Let’s be clear. It’s not done yet. Negotiations at this level are always delicate until signed. No official agreement yet.”

Chris Johnston: It is sounding like there has been some progress made between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Mitch Marner.

John Shannon: The numbers that are out there involving the Maple Leafs and Marner appear to be off.

A source who is close to the situation: ”Talks have been ongoing and every report out there seems to throw something against the wall to see if it sticks.”

The Maple Leafs are wanting long-term, and Marner wants short-term.

Pierre LeBrun: In opinion, a six-year deal at $10.5 million should work for both sides.

James (Account4hockey): Elliotte Friedman said on Sportsnet 590 that the Maple Leafs and Marner’s camp are back talking. They are discussing three and six-year deals.

Friedman thinks that the AAV on a six-year deal is under $11 million because he thinks that if they were offering $11 million over six, a deal would be done.

James (Account4hockey): Friedman adds that the Maple Leafs and Marner are going to need to clear the air after they reach an agreement as it’s been “a very difficult negotiation.”

Chris Johnston: Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas on the threat of a team trying to offer sheet Marner if talks drag into the season.

“The potential of an offer sheet has been there since July,” he said. “It’s a possibility, there’s no rules against it, it’s a mechanism which teams can use to acquire talent for their teams. If it happens, as we said leading into the draft, we’ll make our decision then and address it.”
