The Montreal Canadiens aren’t in any rush, but they are looking for physical, scoring middle-six forward
TSN: The Montreal Canadiens are not in a rush to make another trade. Pierre LeBrun said they’d like to get through the Olympic break and see where they are with their goaltending and if they want to go after another forward.
“If they do, it is my understanding that Blake Coleman is high on their list. Now there’s other players on their trade list, every playoff contender draws up a list at this time of year. But Blake Coleman is a player of interest.”
The Canadiens won’t be the only team after Coleman, and there is also no guarantee that the Flames trade will trade him.
NHL Rumors: 20 teams have inquired about Blake Coleman
Coleman has a year left on his contract and a 10-team trade list. He’s a leader and well respected in the Flames dressing room.
Marco D’Amico of RG Media: It’s not looking like it’s going to be very busy NHL Trade Deadline, but the Montreal Canadiens will be looking fill the missing holes. They do have some injured players that should be back by the deadline to fill some of those holes.
They do have the assets – both future and current – to make a move if they can find a partner. One NHL source:
“The Canadiens are still looking to add that rare combination of physicality and goal-scoring to their middle six. I heard they were still in on (Kiefer) Sherwood, checked in on (Blake) Coleman and if ever Alex Tuch becomes available, that’s a player I could see Montreal going for as well.”
NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens Want To Add But at What Cost?
Canadiens GM Kent Hughes said he wants to be active, but not at all costs. Giving up a high price for a rental like Sherwood, it may not be right him for that as they may not really be legit contenders.
