On the Winnipeg Jets …
Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: Defenseman Toby Enstrom was asked if the Jets have asked him to waive his no-movement clause for the expansion draft.
“The season’s just finished and we haven’t had any conversation about the future or anything,” said Enstrom, who had one goal and 14 points in 60 games this season while averaging just under 22 minutes of ice time per game. “You know, I’ve been in this franchise for 10 years and I’m happy here and I’m excited to see where this team is going. I said earlier this is a team I believe should be in the playoffs, and I’m proud every night I get to put this jersey on.”
On the Detroit Red Wings …
AP in USA Today: The Red Wings might leave goaltender Petr Mrazek unprotected for the expansion draft and they might be happy if Vegas claims his $4 million salary cap hit.
On the New York Islanders …
Arthur Staple of Newsday: Forward John Tavares said yesterday there is no rush for them to start contract extension talks with the Islanders. Tavares does hope they will work towards something before the end of the offseason.
“Ideally you’d like to get something done as soon as possible,” Tavares, who has one year left on his contract, said as the Islanders held their exit meetings Monday at Northwell Health Ice Center following the end of the season Sunday. “But at the same time, like I said, it’s a process and I think we’ve seen other guys go through it and it doesn’t necessarily happen the first day it can happen. I’m just speaking out loud. We’ll see how things go.
“Like I’ve said before, during the season I’ve never had to worry about it because it’s just not that time yet. Now as the time approaches, we’ll start going through the process of talking and getting there and even before that Doug determining what he wants to do . . . which I think probably is first on their agenda, let alone my situation. So just take it one thing at a time and one day a time.”
The future of GM Garth Snow and interim coach Doug Weight remains in the air for the time being.
Tavares is eligible to sign a contract extension after July 1st.
