Maroon likely to be traded
Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic: The St. Louis Blues signed forward Pat Maroon to a one-year, $1.75 million deal this past offseason.
Maroon has been made a healthy scratch several times this season and will most likely be traded by the NHL trade deadline next month.
He holds a full no-trade clause until January 31st, and then it will become a modified no-trade – an eight-team no-trade list.
The lack of playing time could mean he’d waive his no-trade before the 31st. A source said they may be able to get a 5th round pick for him.
The Blues could put him on waivers. If claimed they would obviously lose him without any return. If he cleared they could just keep him or if assigned to the AHL, they would get a bit of salary cap savings.
Maroon had turned down bigger offers to play in St. Louis and closer to his son. He still thinks he made the right choice despite how the season has played out so far.
