Four main areas the Toronto Maple Leafs need to address
James Mirtle of The Athletic: Aside from finding a new head coach, GM John Chayka has holes he needs to fill in the Toronto Maple Leafs roster. The offseason shopping list should include the following, and not be limited to.
• A No. 1 defenseman who can move the puck and QB the power play
• Another top-six forward, ideally to play with Matthews
• Another minute-eating center that can handle difficult minutes
• Improved depth at basically every position, perhaps other than in goal
The Leafs lack draft picks, prospects, and roster players that have value, so filling out the shopping list won’t be easy.
Pittsburgh Penguins – Offseason Questions and Some Options
Darnell Nurse, Morgan Rielly and Brandon Carlo could be on the move this offseason
Daily Faceoff: David Pagnotta, on the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers looking to retool their blue line. The two teams talked before the trade deadline. Do they revisit those talks, or do they look elsewhere? The Maple Leafs could look at moving both Morgan Rielly, and the Oilers could look to move Darnell Nurse. Would the San Jose Sharks be interested in Nurse?
Pagnotta: “But the primary pieces at the time before the trade deadline, the week of, was Darnell Nurse in a deal that involved Morgan Rielly and Nick Roy.
Now, Roy, that didn’t happen. Roy ended up going to Colorado for a first-round pick. Toronto said no. I believe Edmonton circled back. Toronto said no again. Does that change now? Does Edmonton circle back on that?
I think for, I think there will be more conversations involving Morgan Rielly. One of the things that John Chaika had said in his opening press conference was that reshaping or retooling, or whatever, I’m paraphrasing, fixing the blue line is a priority. So that involves the potential move of Morgan Riley, forget about who else they’re potentially bringing in.
That may also involve moving out Brandon Carlo also. So we’ll see kind of where that goes.
Toronto Maple Leafs Coaching Candidates, and Dallas Stars Trade Candidates
In Edmonton side. I’m looking at San Jose as another potential for Darnell Nurse. They’ve got a lot of money. They want a veteran presence back there. It’s quieter, he can get out of the spotlight, you know.
So, we’ll see kind of, kind of where that goes. I think Edmonton is going to look, also, to retool their blue line a little bit.
