For now that Maple Leafs are not in the goalie market
TSN: Michael Hutchinson cleared waivers and the Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled Kasimir Kaskisuo to backup Frederik Andersen.
Bob McKenzie says that Kaskisuo is the backup for now and that they are not in the market for a veteran backup. Anderson will start on Wednesday against the Islanders and likely Friday against the Bruins. Kaskisuo could be called upon for Saturday against the Penguins.
“Right now they want to give Kasimir Kaskisuo his chance to prove he’s an NHL backup. We’ll see how it fares. There are five more back-to-back situations for the Toronto Maple Leafs between now and the end of December.”
David Pagnotta: The Maple Leafs had been exploring the goaltender market recently.
Have been told that they contacted Scott Darling, who decided to go to Austria.
For now, they will go with Kaskisuo.
Oilers are fine with Puljujarvi staying in Finland for the year
TSN: Darren Dreger thinks that the Edmonton Oilers and GM Ken Holland are okay with Jesse Puljujarvi deciding to spend the rest of the year in Finland.
“We know that teams continue to inquire, and in doing so they’re going to continue to investigate and scout Puljujarvi who is playing in Finland. Now one team with interest in Jesse Puljujarvi in scouting said they’d like to see him come back to the National Hockey League or at least back to the NHL game on that smaller ice surface because on the big ice, he likes to play a little bit too east-west for the NHL game and they’d like to refine that. “
Sabres looking for forward help
TSN: Pierre LeBrun doesn’t know if the Buffalo Sabres are interested in Puljujarvi but they are looking for help up front.
“They do have interest in acquiring a top-nine forward, and sooner rather than later. Now there’s even more urgency I would say because of the injury to Vladimir Sobotka, who took that low hit from Nikita Kucherov last week in Sweden. Didn’t look very good at the time, didn’t feel very good and now I believe it’ll be a longer-term injury rather than a short-term absence for Sobotka.”
The Sabres will likely continue to work the phones for help.
