On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Howard Berger: “Maybe it’s happening. Source: #Leafs working “on a big” trade to acquire a legit No. 1 defenseman. Wouldn’t reveal particulars.”

Howard Berger: “#Leafs apparently talking trade with Colorado, Calgary and the Rangers. Details sketchy. But, looking to off-load salary for a d-man.”

On Ilya Kovalchuk …

L.A. Lariviere: There was no a single trade offer was made the New Jersey Devils for Ilya Kovalchuk.

On the Boston Bruins …

Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: The Bruins and the camp for 21-year old RFA David Pastrnak continue to talk extension, but there is no timeline on when the deal could get signed.

The Bruins have $13 million in cap space, so they are protected in the unlikely event that he signs an offer sheet.

“Just had some talks this week with group and hopefully that will lead to a resolution at some point in time, in the near future, but we have no timeline,” said Sweeney, while speaking on the final day of Bruins development camp at Warrior Ice Arena.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

TVA Sports: (through google translate) The Canadiens VP of players staff said the Canadiens tried to move up in the second round to select “a francophone player who lives in Quebec.” Timmons said

“Of course we had them on our radar, but I can not tell you which ones. You can read between the lines that these are the ones that have been drafted, “he hinted in a capsule tour for the team’s official website.

“We tried to improve our ranking in the second round to get one of them, but we did not find a partner to make an exchange.”

The Canadiens had the 56th and 58th overall picks in the second round.

The Anaheim Ducks selected forward Maxime Comtois at No. 50 and the Penguins selected defenseman Zachary Lauzon at No. 51.
