Sportsnet: Hockey Night in Canada Headlines …

Nck Kypreos said last night that the Toronto Maple Leafs have some interest in a couple Detroit Red Wings.

“Riley Sheahan has drawn some interest from the Toronto Maple Leafs,” Kypreos said.

The cost to acquire the 25-year may not be cheap even though he has no goals and is a minus 19 in 58 games.

“The feeling is, regardless of being goalless, that could cost you as much as a first-rounder if the Leafs want him,”Kypreos said.

The Leafs, among other teams, have some interest in pending free agent defenseman Brendan Smith, who the Wings might be interested in re-signing.

“I understand Detroit is trying to sign him, that there’ve been talks, that they’re hoping to make some movement,” said Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. “So I’m not sure at this point he’s gonna get dealt. He may be re-signed.”

The Vancouver Canucks have received trade lists from Jannik Hansen, but Friedman notes some teams may not be able to handle his contract for next year

Ryan Miller has also submitted his trade list to the Canucks.

Elliotte Friedman said there could be a few teams interested in Alexandre Burrows. If the Canucks get offers for Burrows, they may go to him say “this is what we got, are you interested.”

The Los Angeles Kings might be looking for a back up goalie.

“Two names that I’m hearing are Ryan Miller of the Vancouver Canucks and Ben Bishop,” Kypreos said, adding that “this would strictly be a rental situation.”

The Kings are said to be looking to move out some salary in Marian Gaborik.

“He’s got four years left on his contract, so it’s not gonna be easy to do,” Friedman said. “But I do think the Kings are trying to see if they can get him sent somewhere else.”

The Colorado Avalanche don’t feel any pressure to move either Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog and they have no interest in lowering their asking price.

“They’re telling everyone they’re not changing what they want,” Friedman said. “Three or four pieces, depending on the age. A young defenceman or a goaltender. And they have told everybody, if they don’t get what they want, they’ll take it to the end of the season.”

Nick Kypreos said the Blues are still trying to move Kevin Shattenkirk. Teams are realizing that money may not be Shattenkirk’s main factor on where he wants to play next year. Turning down $42 million, $6 million a year, in some places with no state tax and low cost of living is like $7 million a year in places like New York.

“This guy is truly trying to pick his spot on where to play next season,” he said.
