On the Boston Bruins and Tuukka Rask …
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Wondering if the Bruins are not trusting goaltender Tuukka Rask in big games as they once did. Rask has looked a little mentally rattled of late, especially after Thursday’s game. Maybe he has an injury that he’s been dealing with, and/or has been over played?
Is it time for the Bruins to consider looking at other options this offseason? Rask no trade clause expires after this season. He’s been inconsistent when the heat is on.
Jimmy Murphy: “Kudos to Bruce Cassidy for becoming an NHL HC again. But apparently yrs of exile didn’t teach him when to call out players & when not to. Unless orders were sent from above, how can Bruce Cassidy, at this time of season, think any good will come from singling out Tuukka Rask? Is Rask underperforming as of late? Yes. Has he done this before at inopportune times? But he’s human & it’s on GM/Coach to rest when needed. If Bruins had a back up that could’ve have delivered earlier in season, maybe Rask is more rested now and performing better. Just a thought! The fact Cassidy is calling out Rask now after all Rask did for team earlier in season is petty, narrow-minded and simply not smart! I wouldn’t be surprised though if it isn’t simply Cassidy calling out Rask but more management paving way for trade. Typical smear campaign.”
Joe Haggerty: “To those saying Tuukka Rask’s overworked: He’s tied for 5th among NHL goalies in games played one ahead of Peter Budaj. His workload is fine” Jimmy Murphy: responding “and has proven in past that for him, maybe that is overworked. So on management to trade him or get better back up!”
Bob McKenzie: Bruins defensive prospect Charlie McAvoy has exams this week at College and may affect the timing of signing a contract with the Bruins. Likely not a big issue though.
