On Tyson Barrie …
The Fourth Period: Along with Matt Duchene, Colorado Avalanche teammate Tyson Barrie has had his name in the rumor mill. The Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils are among the teams that are believed to have some interest in Barrie.
Barrie has three years left on his contract at a $5.5 million cap hit. The Avs would likely have to take some salary back in any deal. It’s not known what they would want in return for Barrie, but would think they want a younger defenseman in a deal or a young forward or two.
On the Toronto Maple Leafs …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger was on TSN 690 talking about the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was a bit of surprise that the Leafs were able to sign Patrick Marleau as many didn’t think he’d want to move his family – four young kids.
“So No. 1, I give him full credit for not chasing the money here – chasing opportunity. And that’s what he’s done by joining the Toronto Maple Leafs. And I think Toronto had to concede a little bit. They jumped in with that extra year – the third year – which they were willing to do right from the onset. That tells you how much that they wanted Patrick Marleau. So it’s a leap of faith, I think, from both sides.
“But I’m now intrigued by what happens next in Toronto because they’ve got a glut of forwards, and some quality guys too.”
says that after losing James Neal in the expansion draft, Nashville Predators GM David Poile is looking for depth and has to address his needs at forward.
“So maybe – and this is my own speculation – there’s a fit with van Riemsdyk or Bozak or go down the list of the potential available players, forwards from the Toronto Maple Leafs because I don’t think Lou is done here by any stretch of the imagination.”
