The Utah Mammoth continue to impress this season, with the standings remaining as tight as they are. They sit two points out of the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. There are expectations on the Mammoth to make the playoffs this season. So the pressure is on management and the coaching staff to get them across the finish line.

General Manager Bill Armstrong is not afraid to make moves. He brought in JJ Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres, John Marino from the New Jersey Devils, and Mikhail Sergachev to the Tampa Bay Lightning, just to name a few. And he isn’t done making moves either.

During an appearance on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio on Monday with Gord Stellick and Scott Laughlin, Armstrong was asked about his plans for the trade deadline. He stated he is going big game hunting, and the Mammoth have the assets and cap space to make it happen.

Gord Stellick: “So now that the Olympic rosters are set, the Monday Morning Quarterbacks will switch to the trade deadline talk up till the deadline, right? And we always knew when you’re in Arizona, basically, mostly were sellers. You would take futures and move players, whatever. That’s changed quite a bit.

You’ve made some neat trades the last couple of years. Seems like nobody is a seller right now, given how tight it is. In Carolina, (Eric) Tulsky says, ‘Look, we’re still big game hunting.’ They kind of have a theory there about whatever. How would you describe your thoughts about heading into the trade deadline?

NHL Rumors: The Columbus Blue Jackets and Edmonton Oilers

Bill Armstrong: “Well, I think it goes in two ways. You know, your team will tell you what you got to get done. Coming down the stretch, trying to get into the playoffs, your team will tell you. It’ll lead you to where you need to be in the decisions that you need to make. Big game hunting? We’re big game hunting every day. I mean, we have cap room. We have assets, and picks and everything.

So, we’re kind of in the midst of time to do a little bit of everything. And like you said, we’ve been able to pull off the (JJ) Peterka trade and the (Mikhail) Sergachev trade, which has moved us forward. And we’ll continue to look for those opportunities at all times to do.”

As NHLRumors.com have written over the past weeks, the Utah Mammoth are a team to watch heading into the Olympic Break Freeze and NHL Trade Deadline. However, given how tight everything is, can they execute that trade?
