NHL Rumors V: Devils, Iginla, Gibbons, Jokinen and Alfredsson

  • Tom Gulitti of The Record: The Devils are unlikely to use their compliance buyout.

“We like our players,” Lamoriello said. “You’re not going to do a compliance buyout unless there’s a reason for it. There’s no players we don’t like. We’re trying to just get better every day. What happened last year (with using the buyout), circumstances created that. That’s why it’s unlikely, but circumstances change.”

GM Lou Lamoriello would like to add scoring to their lineup.

“There’s no question you try to add offense. That’s an understatement,” Lamoriello said. “But it has to be the right people. In other words, we’ll look at everything. Whether something will happen or something won’t, it’s very difficult (to tell).”

Lamoriello said he’d like to re-sign Mark Fayne, Ryan Carter, Stephen Gionta and Steve Bernier.

  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli on pending UFA Jarome Iginla.

“I’m not going to comment specifically on negotiations. We’d like to sign Jarome and that’s what I can say,” said Chiarelli. “He has been a valuable player for us, I think there is a good fit and we’d like to sign him.

“I’m not going to, with all due respect, I’m not going to comment on negotiations. So, that’s what I can say.”

  • Will DePaoli: The Penguins are interested in re-signing Brian Gibbons and plan on talking with him at the draft. He is looking for a one-way deal.
  • Gary Lawless: Olli Jokinen’s agent, Ian Pulver, said yesterday that he’ll speak with teams during the interview period. Pulver added that door to return to the Jets is neither “open or closed.”
  • Dan Rosen: Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said that they want Daniel Alfredsson back, but his back issue needs to get healthy. He’s not sure if he’ll get signed before the start of camp.
