Alex Edler closing in on an extension

7:00 PM – Iain MacIntyre: The Canucks are not planning on making an Edler announcement tonight. A deal is not finalized yet.

6:50 PM – Elliotte Friedman: Edler’s deal could end up being for four years. The key to this deal was being able to get the expansion draft looped issue solved.

5:34 PM – Elliotte Friedman: Deal won’t have a clause preventing him from being exposed in the expansion draft.

5:29 PM – David Pagnotta: Hearing that the Vancouver Canucks and Alex Edler are closing in on a three-year contract extension that would include a modified no-movement clause.

  • 5:49 PM – Rick Dhaliwal: An Edler deal is not done yet, though do expect it to get done. Not sure if the three years is accurate either.

1:30 PM – Elliotte Friedman: There was some talk that one of the issues on an Edler extension was his availability for the expansion draft. That issue has been resolved and why optimism returned.

12:51 PM – Nick Kypreos: Nothing sounds imminent with the Canucks and Edler, but they are closing the gap.

12:49 PM – Rick Dhaliwal: Hearing that the Canucks and Edler have been making progress on an extension. Talks have been positive in the past 24 hours or so.

If they weren’t to bring Edler back

Jason Brough: If the Vancouver Canucks don’t bring back Alex Edler, could seem them trying to sign both of Jake Gardiner and Tyler Myers. Believe that the Canucks want to make a significant change to their blue line.

Boeser could get a four- or five-year deal

Nick Kypreos: It doesn’t sound like the Canucks and Brock Boeser will be doing a max term deal. Boeser’s deal could be for four or five years at around $7 million a season.

Canucks shopping defenseman Tanev

Matthew Sekeres: Have been told that the Canucks are shopping Tanev. His injury history may scare some teams. He has an 8-team no-trade clause.

Matthew Sekeres: (Flyers got Justin Braun for a 2nd and 3rd) If the Canucks looked to trade Chris Tanev, should be close to the expected return.

Both right-handed defensemen with a year left on their deals. Braun has more offensive upside and was $600,000 cheaper. The Sharks didn’t have a lot of leverage when they moved him as they needed the cap space.

Canucks-Oilers talk quiet

Rick Dhaliwal: All seems very quiet with Loui Eriksson – Milan Lucic trade talk. That could change with the GMs arrive in Vancouver for the draft.

Canucks looking to move up in the draft

J.D. Burke: Source is saying that the Canucks are trying to move up in the draft and could be looking at the Detroit Red Wings at No. 6.
