Canucks GM Benning on Boeser’s contract, Edler’s NTC and sending veterans to the AHL

TSN Radio Vancouver: Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning on Brock Boeser: “I’ve had a lot of good dialogue with his agent. He loves playing in Vancouver. He wants to be here longterm. We’ve agreed that he’ll play out the last year of his entry-level deal, and at the end of the season we’ll circle back and try to figure out longterm”

TSN Radio Vancouver: GM Benning on defenseman Alex Edler and his no-trade clause: “We’ve talked about it. We decided to wait, and get into the season….and that might be something we circle back to at some point.”

Mike Halford: GM Benning said that they are okay with waiving a veteran and sending him to the AHL if a younger player wins a job in training camp.

The Edmonton Oilers and Darnell Nurse are several hundred thousand apart

Mark Spector: There were no contract talks scheduled yesterday between Darnell Nurse and Edmonton Oilers. When looking at a two-year bridge deal, there are an estimated $200,000 to $300,000 apart per season.

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1260 talking about the Edmonton Oilers, restricted free agent Darnell Nurse and how long he could go without a contract.

“It’s a good question,” began Dreger. “I want to say shouldn’t expect it to last too much longer, given the fact that Nurse is in Edmonton. It seemed to be heading in that direction. I can tell you this: The Oilers organization was hopeful – hopeful – last week and the start of this week that they would be able to get his contract looked after.

“We’ve talked about the parameters, right, that two-year bridge coming in at around $3 million flat or just over $3 million. Well, clearly $3 million flat isn’t enough to get that player back into camp here, to start the season the way he has started every other NHL season. So there’s got to be enough that isn’t on the table yet for Darnell Nurse and his representation to take this tactic.”

Dreger adds that there is still time to get a deal done without missing much of training camp, but one or both sides will need to give a little.
