Patrick Johnston: Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning is hopeful that it’s a busy week for them.

Rick Dwaliwal: Have been hearing that the Canucks could show some interest in talking with defenseman Patrik Nemeth during the free agent interview period.
Rick Dhaliwal: Wouldn’t be a surprise if the Canucks showed some interest in Victoria, BC native and defenseman Jordie Benn.
Rick Dhaliwal: The Canucks and Luke Schenn‘s agent spoke at the draft but they didn’t reach an agreement.

GM Jim Benning on if they could add another winger before free agency starts
“No, but I’m going see what happens through free agency and if something opens up, we want to be ready to add more to our top six,” he added. “But the focus is on our defence and try to figure out one guy and maybe two that can make us better.”
The Canucks were talking to the Colorado Avalanche about defenseman Tyson Barrie at the draft. To acquire Barrie it would have cost a high draft pick and a roster player or prospect.
“We had lots of conversations and the prices were too high,” said Benning. “I’m going to continue to look at our options on that (trade), but I don’t know if there is one or not. If there is, I want to make sure we’ve covered all of our bases and we’re ready for it.”
Free agent options on the blue line include Jake Gardiner and Tyler Myers.
