Simmonds could be a risk for someone

Marc Dumont of The Athletic: It’s been reported that the Montreal Canadiens are one of the teams that reached out to Wayne Simmonds.

Pierre LeBrun reported he could be looking for a three- to five-year deal.

There are many teams interested and he’s dealt with a bunch of injuries recently. It has the makings of an overpayment and a recipe for disaster for someone.

Goalie market taking some shape … Notes on Joe Pavelski, Matt Duchene and Chris Kreider

Craig Custance of The Athletic: One source said the goalie market is starting to take shape.

Sergei Bobrovsky appears to be down to the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers. Robin Lehner talks have broken down with the Islanders.

The Carolina Hurricanes don’t a lot of money but have the playing time. The Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames are looking for a goalie on a limited budget. The Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche are looking for a backup.

The Hurricanes are still talking with Petr Mrazek and like Semyon Varlamov. The Oilers like both as well but can’t pay much. Keith Kinkaid may like the Canadiens.

James Reimer is available and the Panthers will retain salary.

Over 10 teams reached out to Joe Pavelski. It’s well known he’s met with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Dallas Stars. One more is at least expected to make a pitch. He’s looking for a chance to win the Cup.

The Minnesota Wild would love to add Pavelski, but they don’t appear to be close enough. They could look at Wayne Simmonds if they can’t sign Pavelski.

The Nashville Predators remain the likely destination for Matt Duchene. Columbus is a wild card their cap space and him already knowing the area is like for the short time he was there.

A source saying the New York Rangers and Chris Kreider’s camp haven’t held any serious contract negotiations about an extension. He has a year left on his deal.
