NHL Rumors: What ‘Core’ Should the Vancouver Canucks Keep?

Mark Easson 03/22/2026

More change is likely coming this offseason for the Vancouver Canucks, but Brock Boeser may be one of the veteran core that should stick around.

Brock Boeser may be the only older ‘core’ player the Vancouver Canucks should keep

Donnie & Dhali: Farhan Lalji, on Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser, and he may be the only one from their ‘older’ core players that should be kept.

** NHLRumors.com transcription

Rick Dhaliwal: “You know, we’re talking about veteran players, you know, who’s been saying all the right things lately is Brock Boeser. You know, I know there’s people that want to see him traded and, you know, but that might be a guy you keep around. He’s saying the right things, and he’s doing the right things on the ice.”

Lalji: “Yeah, I agree with you, Rick, and I think Brock has always had a level of leadership about him. And, you know, the challenge becomes, can he consistently play the game at a certain way?

I mean, we saw it a few years ago when he had the 40 gold season, but we’ve also seen big gaps, because other things have, have impacted him. And look, we’re all human. You don’t want to dismiss what he’s going through, but you know, that has also been a part of his story.

NHL Rumors: What will the Vancouver Canucks do with Elias Pettersson?

Now, if he can get to a point, you know, at this stage of his career, he’s been through a lot, and now there’s kind of, you know, less to go through, for lack of a better description, I think he can be an important piece of that locker room. You know, he talked about it the other day that, you know, we were trying to change the culture and do things a little bit differently and, and I think that’s positive.

Because in this, in this version of the Canucks, a lot of this has been addition by subtraction, you know, one by one, whether it be, you know, J.T. Miller, and then eventually Quinn Hughes and then Connor garland, and, you know, and you know, Myers was less of a, you know, negative piece and all of that.

But, like it was, it’s different, right? But Brock is a guy that’s, has been the longest serving conduct for some time now, and I think I would keep him as well. He might be the only one from that core I would keep.
