Nate Thompson: “Dave, you saw Carter Hart come back last night (Tuesday Night) and have a pretty solid game for Vegas. The goaltending market, not sure what it looks like. But for a team like Edmonton, the situation that they’re in now, and obviously goaltending being a big part of their issues, is this something that you think that they’re going to address or are they going to leave be for the rest of the season? Just deal with it internally?”
NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers Won’t a Panic Move for a Goalie
Dave Pagnotta: “I think they’re going to keep it going internally, unless this is another scenario where, if something completely falls into their lap, I’m sure they pounce on it. But I think, and Stan Bowman their GM and management has been pretty consistent in their messaging that they want to look to address other areas of their club, versus the crease.
And both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard are UFAs at the end of the season, into July. I think the goaltending position will be something that’s addressed in the offseason, as opposed to during the year. I still think they’re going to look to shore up the D. I still think they’re going to look to find somebody that they can add to the mix that’s palatable and affordable. I think that would be more those two areas than the goalie.
Yes, there’s, we’ve heard in the last few weeks, Tristan Jarry, and Jordan Binnington. And some people try to connect Juuse Saros, and even UPL in Buffalo, who, I think, the lowest of the cap hits at 4.75. That’s still a big number. Plus, you have not fit the cap scenario and the cap figures, but you got to give up a decent type of package in order to bolster your goaltending.
NHL Rumors: The Edmonton Oilers and Goaltending
I still believe that it’s more likely to occur in the offseason, and that they’re going to address other areas of their club to improve upon and try to get them back on track, even though they’re what, four points or five points, whatever it is, out of the playoffs. But I still think it’s more likely that they address other areas of the club, up front and on the versus the goal setting, at least right now.”
