Jets looking for a No. 2 center and have already spoken with the Penguins
Frank Seravalli of TSN: The Winnipeg Jets are looking to acquire a second line center before the trade deadline next month.
They acquired a No. 2 center last year in Paul Stastny, bumping Bryan Little to No. 3 and a move again this season would make them stronger.
The cost to acquire will play a role in what they do.
“Whether you bring in a fourth-line player or a Paul Stastny, it changes the dynamic,” coach Paul Maurice said at All-Star Weekend. “The question is: How much do you change?”
The Jets have spoken with the Pittsburgh Penguins about center Derick Brassard but their initial asking price was too high.
GM Kevin Cheveldayoff may be looking for someone with term, but they have pending free agents in Patrik Laine, Kyle Connor, Jacob Trouba and Tyler Myers.
Some center options with both rental and term include Matt Duchene, Brayden Schenn, Charlie Coyle and Kevin Hayes.
