  • Bob McKenzie: It is believed that Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each initially asked the Blackhawks for a contract extension worth around $12 million per year. Toews and Kane will get less than that, but could still end up around $10 million a year.
  • Cap Geek: If the Blackhawks were able to sign Toews and Kane at $10 million cap hits, the Blackhawks 2015-16 salary cap payroll would be about $62 million for 12 players.
  • Neil Sheehy: Matt Niskanen talked to the Penguins and he’ll be testing the open market in July 1st.
  • Craig Custance: The Kings won’t be re-signing Willie Mitchell as: “Unfortunately, no room.”
  • Vancouver Canucks: Canucks GM Jim Benning: “We’re inquiring about what it takes to move up, but we’re happy at six if we stay there”
  • Jason Brough: Benning on the chance that Jacob Markstrom could be picked up off waivers if they send him down to the AHL: “We don’t have to try and figure that out right now.”
  • Renaud Lavoie: Brian Gionta’s agent expected to talk to a few teams today and he’ll talk to Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin afterwards.
  • John Shannon: Oilers GM Craig MacTavish is downplaying that they are free agent shopping. They are still wanting to get a defenseman and “a forward or two.”
  • Ken Wiebe: Source saying the Jets are no closer to re-signing goaltender Al Montoya. He is getting lots of interest from other teams.
  • Tim Campbell: The Jets won’t use their compliance buyouts, “Not doable for small-market team.”
  • John Shannon: The Penguins have received permission to talk with Travis Green about joining their coaching staff.
