  • Jeremy Rutherford: Blues Doug Armstrong talked to Alex Steen and David Backes about the possibility of getting into the free agent market and paying someone more than them.
  • Jeremy Rutherford: David Backes could be moved to right wing next year, Patrik Berglund to left wing.
  • Helene St. James: The Red Wings offered Matt Niskanen seven-years and $38.5 million, but were told before free agency started that they weren’t on his final list.
  • Ansar Khan: One team source said the Wings would have gone seven-years and $42 million for Niskanen.
  • Ken Wiebe: Sources saying the Jets have showed no interest in defenseman Michael Del Zotto at this point.
  • John Shannon: Martin Brodeur’s camp is still talking to teams and looking for the right fit.
  • Bruce Garrioch: Milan Michalek received a five-year offer. Settled on a three-year deal with the Senators.
  • Dustin Nielson: The Oilers still need to add a center. If they can’t add one through free agency, they’ll need to go the trade route.
  • Nicholas Goss: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli is fine with Loui Eriksson replacing Jarome Iginla on the top line.
  • David Pagnotta: Andrei Loktionov has received some interest from the KHL.
