On the Arizona Coyotes …
Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: Defenseman Zbynek Michalek saw the writing on the wall this past offseason when the Coyotes made a bunch of defenseman additions. The 33-year old defenseman is in the final year of deal and has been playing in the AHL.
“I have turned the page. I don’t want to burn any bridges. My career might come to an end soon and who knows, maybe there’s a job for me later on in the organization so I want to stay respectful to them because they have been treating me really nice. I know it’s not an ideal situation for them either, but they’ve always respected me.”
Michalek will see how he feels after the season. He may play another year or two if he feels good and would prefer to play in the NHL, but he could look to move his family and play in Europe.
“There’s a chance I might play in Europe for a couple years and bring my family so they can experience the lifestyle there. It’s pretty good hockey and a pretty good living and it would be a pretty cool experience for my kids to experience both worlds and decide what I’m doing in the rest of my life once my career does end.”
On the Boston Bruins …
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: (mailbag) If the Bruins finish the season strong and make the playoffs, thinks that they will drop the interim tag from coach Bruce Cassidy. If the Bruins fall apart, they could go a different direction. GM Don Sweeney could look at Dave Quinn (Boston University) or Nate Leaman (Providence College).
Expect either Adam McQuaid or Kevan Miller to be selected by Vegas in the expansion draft.
The Bruins may look at trading winger Matt Beleskey this offseason.
Don’t expect them to re-sign free agents Drew Stafford, John-Michael Liles and Dominic Moore.
