Some depth forward potential trade options for the New Jersey Devils
James Nichols of NJ Hockey Now: The New Jersey Devils could obviously use a top-six forward, but they could also use some forward depth. Free agency may not turn up much for the Devils, so they could turn to the trade market. Four potential options for the Devils.
Ross Colton – Colorado Avalanche – The Avs have just under $3 million in projected cap space. Colton is in the last year of his deal at a $4 million hit with a 12-team no-trade. He grew up a Devils fan and grew up in Robbinsville, New Jersey.
Cole Perfetti – Winnipeg Jets – Hasn’t lived up to the 10th overall draft selection and is a pending RFA. On the smaller side, but has top-six potential. Would Simon Nemec be part of a potential deal?
Connor Zary – Calgary Flames – Has two years left at $3.755 million. His numbers have dipped the past years, but he drives the net and forechecks.
Anaheim Ducks Free Agents, and Maple Leafs Will Talk Trade About Anyone But Auston Matthews
Mavrik Bourque – Dallas Stars – Went from 11 goals and 20 last year, and up to 41 points. A pending RFA who could be in the $2 to $3 million range, and the Dallas Stars have cap issues, especially if they want to re-sign Jason Robertson.
What could a Macklin Celebrini contract extension look like?
Hunter Crowther on Daily Faceoff: Tyler Yaremchuk and David Pagnotta were discussing what a Macklin Celebrini contract extension with the San Jose Sharks could look like, and how Connor Bedard‘s next contract could impact it.
Pagnotta: “This summer or next summer, it’s going to be very expensive. I mean, the $15-million range wouldn’t entirely shock me. But I don’t know if they’ll go full term. I think this might be a five-year, get to the last year of your RFA status and then go from there. We will see.
With respect to Bedard and what that number comes in at: If they do go full term, there’s some pretty big numbers that are being discussed … his possible AAV could be $15, $16, $17 million, if you’re going full term.
I think that’s going to impact a little bit of what happens here, but without question, that $15-million range for Celebrini, probably on a short-term deal, that’s what I would look for. Maybe Bedard goes down that route, as well.”
The Chicago Blackhawks and Connor Bednard Negotiating a Contract Extension
Yaremchuk adds that with the way the cap is projected to be going up, teams should be trying to get the most years possible when doing these big extensions. Pagnotta notes that some players like the idea of the security in case something happens to them. You can see some of these younger players looking in the three to five-year range and before they become a UFA, and then go for a full-term contract.
