  • Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford isn’t optimistic about Pascal Dupuis being able to continue his playing career. They should know by July 1st if blood clots will prevent him from playing again.

“On May 20, they started doing testing, checking to see where the blood clot was, or if it was there, all these things,” Rutherford said. “The next step is, there are certain medications you can go on that may allow you to play, or may not allow you to play.

“That’s the next step now, to see if there’s a medication that gives him enough recovery time that he’s available to play every day. That’s what we’re waiting to see.”

Kris Letang has been fully cleared to resume workouts and doesn’t have any workout restrictions. They are hoping that he’ll be 100 percent by the start of training camp.

The Penguins will receive a third round pick in the next three years from the Devils for the hiring of AHL coach John Hynes.

  • William DePaoli: Likely that Penguins will get a 2016 3rd round pick from the Devils for Hynes, that originally belong to the Panthers (Jaromir Jagr trade) or the Red Wings (Marek Zidlicky trade).
  • Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: The Oilers didn’t sign 2013 draft picks Marco Roy and Jackson Houck and they will both be going back into the draft. The Oilers drafted Roy 56th overall in the second round with the pick they acquired from the Ducks in the Andrew Cogliano trade. Houck was drafted 94th overall in the fourth round. The WHL Vancouver Giants have interviewed Dallas Eakins according to a Vancouver radio station. Eakins in a text:  “just because it’s on Twitter, doesn’t mean it’s true.” Other coaches the Giants could be looking at: Ryan McGill, Fred Harbinson, Ted Noalan, Steve Spott and Ian Herbers.
  • Bruce Luebke: The agent for Eric Roy is saying that he won’t be signing with the Flames and will re-enter the draft.
  • Arthur Staple: Robbie Russo won’t be signing with the Islanders and will become free agent. He was drafted in the 4th round of the 2011 draft by the Islanders. He was a 2nd team NCAA All-American at Notre Dame the past season.
  • Arthur Staple: No word from the Islanders if they have signed Kirill Petrov, their 2008 3rd round pick. Contract talks appear to be are ongoing.
  • Tampa Bay Lightning: The Lightning acquire the rights to defenseman Daniel Walcott from the Rangers for a 2015 7th round pick.
