  • Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington: Braden Holtby and Marcus Johansson have arbitration hearings set for July 23rd and 29th with the Capitals.

“Nothing to comment on at this point other than we are preparing for the arbitration hearing on July 29,” Johansson’s agent, Marc Levine, told CSNwashington.com in an email.

Johansson is said to be looking for $4 million, with the Capitals hoping for something in the $3 million to $3.5 million range.

Since Holtby and Johansson elected to go to arbitration, the Capitals can decided on either a one- or two-year deal for both. The Capitals also have the option to walk away from a ruling if the a player is awarded over $3.8 million.

The Capitals have about $11 million in cap space. GM Brian MacLellan would like to have about $1 million in cap space heading into the season.

  • Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The Red Wings currently have Niklas Kronwall, Danny DeKeyser, Jonathan Ericsson, Kyle Quincey, Brendan Smith and Jakub Kindl under contract for the upcoming season. Alexey Marchenko, Xavier Ouellet, Nick Jensen and Ryan Sproul are all in their final year of being waiver exempt. Red Wings GM Ken Holland would like one of his young defenseman to make to the team.

“like to have a young one make the team, but we might start with those seven. Anything is a possibility. We think that we might have an extra defenseman. My plan is to have one of the young D up, but is it through injury or trade?”

  • Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: According to his agent Allain Roy, Rich Peverley is still undecided whether he’ll try to play again. He hasn’t played since March 10th, 2014, when he had an episode of atrial fibrillation. He was cleared for off-ice workouts last season.
